Zuzana, co-ordinator at the Abington Avenue Child Contact Centre in Northampton has been chatting with her local Family Law Group (FLG) office to help the parents using her centre access initial free legal advice. The Northampton FLG office provides a free surgery every Thursday afternoon but is looking to bring this service to parents at alternative venues in the town.
Zuzana told us:
I’ve been chatting with the Family Law Group about holding a law surgery to help the parents using our centre. It seems like a great idea, especially in the current situation, where people don’t have the extra money and don’t know what else to do. We haven’t started yet but I’ve suggested that our central library could be a good location as it is in town and therefore accessible for people. Northampton Council are doing a similar thing already where they go around local libraries doing a drop in sessions for people to come and talk to them. So hopefully it could work. I just need to contact the right people and put something in place.
FLG currently offer a free 20-minute surgery in their Northampton office every Thursday afternoon and in their Nottingham office every Friday afternoon. 20/20 appointments (£20 plus VAT for 20 minutes advice) are available in Derby (every Tuesday afternoon) and Chesterfield (every Wednesday afternoon).
