Accreditation is a way of checking that your contact centre is safe and meets our standards.
How is a centre checked?
An assessorSomeone working on our behalf who has experience and an interest in child contact services and must assess if a service meets our standards. looks round the centre’s rooms, toys, equipment, and any outside play areas to make sure that they are safe and good for you to use. They talk with the people at the centre to make sure that they are trained and helped to do their job as well as possible. They then check the informationThe assessor checks through the centre’s accreditation portfolio which includes policies, procedures, risk assessments, reports (if the service offers supervised contact) and information for families. on what happens at the centre and how it keeps you safe. If your family time happens in the community The service might use local community venues to deliver their service or in some cases, residential properties including family members’ homes, where this is safe and appropriate., then the assessor will check that this is going to be safe for you.
When the assessor is happy that a centre meets our standards then they are awarded their accreditation and you can find them on this website. Accreditation happens every three years with extra checks if needed.

Summary:
Bold Moves is in Luton, Bedfordshire providing supervised and supported contact services. The centre makes use of a Salvation Army building which is in an ideal location with bus routes and train stops close by. The service opened in 2015 and currently has three other venues across the South and Southeast providing a number of different services including the SPIP programme, ICFA, Counselling and mediation.
The building is safe, child friendly and whilst this space is rented from another organisation, they do not appear to infringe on each other’s space. The premises themselves are suitable, clean, tidy and well-lit with the appropriate emergency procedures in place. Entry to the centre is via a front door which is locked to the outside and opened by the coordinator who can see clearly who is at the door. The centre has a waiting area/reception, a meeting room, toilets (including an accessible toilet with baby change) and three contact rooms which are situated on the first floor. These are accessible to those with additional needs through the ground floor rooms and lifts. The centre has in place staggered arrivals to particularly support families affected by domestic abuse.
Bold Moves evidenced a ‘pre visit checklist’ which contains details of the children, any involved professionals, how the children will be getting to and from the centre and a schedule for contact which is signed by both parents. The pre visit and centre rules are clear and concise covering parents’ expectations, understanding of data protection, safeguarding and the principle of putting their child first, along with the use of phones, taking photos and presents. The rules also cover behaviour, child welfare and an expectation that families will work with the service to progress contact. Two members of staff are allocated to each family to ensure consistency for the children using the service. Cases are reviewed on a regular basis, set as a 3–6-month process depending on the frequency of bookings. The reviews are undertaken with all involved along with evaluation about the service to support the reviews including different formats for different age groups of children.
Bold Moves have two leaflets highlighting their locations, contact details, charges and services provided, including a compacted version of the rules. The leaflets are to the point and provide appropriate information to the readers. The organisation’s website is easy to follow and provides the right information to those wishing to refer. This includes opening times, location, services provided.
The coordinator has an extensive training record, and the Director is experienced and has vast knowledge of contact and the issues that arise from Court proceedings and contact and how to manage this. Any recommended actions following the visit are now complete meaning the service meets the standards for enhanced (supervised) accreditation.
