Accreditation Summary

Summary:

Family Space Contact Services in Cheltenham has been operational for the last 25 years and is run by the YMCA as part of their range of services to the community.  The contact service uses the Oasis Centre – a large community building based within a residential community. The centre has ample parking, and the town is well served by the M5, several A roads, as well as good bus and train connections making it accessible to people from a wide area. The centre is fairly close to local parks, shops and local amenities.

The contact centre is a warm and welcoming setting that is well equipped, not only in terms of the range of toys, games, and activities but also in terms of the fixtures, fittings, and furniture. The setting is engaging, and the assessor has no doubt that this would help children to feel comfortable when using the service.

The centre has a detailed, bright, and inviting website and leaflets with a range of information included on these for the children and families who may use the centre. This information helps them to anticipate everything from making a referral to the appropriate steps to take if they are unhappy or feel unsafe.

Family Space Contact Services has a great reputation for providing high quality services to the children and families who access them. The staff who work at the centre are well trained, qualified, and professional. Any recommended actions following the visit are now complete meaning the service meets the standards for enhanced (supervised) contact accreditation.

Centre testimonials

"I’m just writing to thank you today, not only for taking time out to see us but to really make me feel like a father to A, It truly warmed my heart and after the awful year I have had, It was certainly needed and nice to be recognised as his father once again, thank you."

Scott, following a supervised session at Family Space

"My children felt safe and supported by centre staff during their time at the centre. They felt that they could speak up about any concerns they may have had."
