This centre is accredited to provide supervised contact
Accreditation is a way of checking that your contact centre is safe and meets our standards.
How is a centre checked?
An assessorSomeone working on our behalf who has experience and an interest in child contact services and must assess if a service meets our standards. looks round the centre’s rooms, toys, equipment, and any outside play areas to make sure that they are safe and good for you to use. They talk with the people at the centre to make sure that they are trained and helped to do their job as well as possible. They then check the informationThe assessor checks through the centre’s accreditation portfolio which includes policies, procedures, risk assessments, reports (if the service offers supervised contact) and information for families. on what happens at the centre and how it keeps you safe. If your family time happens in the community The service might use local community venues to deliver their service or in some cases, residential properties including family members’ homes, where this is safe and appropriate., then the assessor will check that this is going to be safe for you.
When the assessor is happy that a centre meets our standards then they are awarded their accreditation and you can find them on this website. Accreditation happens every three years with extra checks if needed.
Accreditation Summary
Date: 14/09/2022
Summary:
Family Ties Contact Services was established 4 years ago, he Service operates from 3 locations; Bristol, Exeter and Torquay. It provides wide-spread Contact services both locally, and further afield. The Contact Service offers an extensive range of services; Supervised Contact, Supported Contact, ICFA, Indirect Contact, Escorted Contact, Handovers, among others.
The Contact sessions primarily take place in the Flaxpits Lane premises, and this is also where the Co-ordinator is based. However, due to the nature of the Contact work undertaken, often the sessions take place outdoors, in the community or in other venues.
The Service receives referrals from the Local Authority, accepts Private Law cases and Self-referrals, and takes on Cafcass work (ICFA). In light of this, the Team works closely with the allocated Social Worker/referring agency for each family.
Due to demand, the work undertaken is mostly Supervised, with limited Supported and Handovers. However, the Service works closely with the local Supported Contact Centre in Bristol to provide a clear route for families when they are ready to move on.
The building is discreet, with two entrances/exits, which is an advantage for the families, and also for security/ emergency purposes. There are suitable baby changing facilities and an easily accessible toilet which is spacious and well maintained. The entrance area, and the Contact rooms are bright and colourful, and appear to be well maintained. There are lots of toys/games available and they seem to be in good condition.
The toys and equipment at the Centre, appears to be enough variety to meet the needs of visiting children of different ages. The Team will buy new items as and when required. The items are always bought, and they do not accept donated items. These toys are also rotated frequently to ensure the children have access to different items when the visit. As a matter of good practice, the Parents using the Service are also encouraged to bring their own toys/games to engage with their children.
Family Ties Contact Services present as a very cohesive Team, with defined roles yet working together in a very effective manner.
All NACCC standards have been met for Enhanced re-accreditation and the assessor would like to wish the Family Ties Contact Services all the best with any future plans and endeavours.
