This centre is accredited to provide supervised contact
Accreditation is a way of checking that your contact centre is safe and meets our standards.
How is a centre checked?
An assessorSomeone working on our behalf who has experience and an interest in child contact services and must assess if a service meets our standards. looks round the centre’s rooms, toys, equipment, and any outside play areas to make sure that they are safe and good for you to use. They talk with the people at the centre to make sure that they are trained and helped to do their job as well as possible. They then check the informationThe assessor checks through the centre’s accreditation portfolio which includes policies, procedures, risk assessments, reports (if the service offers supervised contact) and information for families. on what happens at the centre and how it keeps you safe. If your family time happens in the community The service might use local community venues to deliver their service or in some cases, residential properties including family members’ homes, where this is safe and appropriate., then the assessor will check that this is going to be safe for you.
When the assessor is happy that a centre meets our standards then they are awarded their accreditation and you can find them on this website. Accreditation happens every three years with extra checks if needed.
Accreditation Summary
Date: 05/09/2022
Summary:
The centre has existed in these premises for several years but in April 2021, when reorganisation within the Luton Borough Council (LBC) took place, a new Family Partnership Service was established, of which the Manor Centre is one hub. The centre manager and her deputy both of whom worked for LBC for many years were appointed then. They are highly qualified to degree level in studies related to children and adolescents and their care and they both have a wealth of appropriate social care and educational experience.
Manor Centre provides contact, or ‘Family Time’ as it is called, for children in the care of LBC with one, or both of their parents.
The centre is decorated with educational interactive displays and the following facilities are available:
• nine colour coordinated well furnished rooms – all contact rooms have kitchenettes with microwave and sinks
• two contact rooms with full kitchens for baking and cooking with children – televisions are available on request
• outdoor play area with basketball net, outdoor toys and equipment
• age-appropriate toys available within contact rooms
• games consoles available for older children, though not always encouraged as they can interfere with contact.
• arts and crafts materials
• cots, prams, highchairs and bedding
• baby changing facilities
• bottles, sterilising equipment
• access to resources and tools for service users with learning difficulties
• disabled access
The Manor Contact Centre meet the requirements for NACCC Enhanced standards, it runs like a well-oiled machine. It is exceptionally busy, as demonstrated by the data showing almost 1200 hours of contact took place during July 2022. The 9 contact rooms are in almost constant use. Inside it is really lovely with colour co-ordinated suites of rooms each with their own cooking and toilet facilities, all exceptionally clean and well maintained. However what makes this a really special centre is the quality of the leadership team. they thoroughly understand what a good contact centre needs to be, and have had the vision and experience to make it happen.
