How is a centre checked?

An assessorSomeone working on our behalf who has experience and an interest in child contact services and must assess if a service meets our standards. looks round the rooms, toys, equipment, and any outside play areas to make sure that they are safe and good for you to use. They talk with the people at the centre to make sure that they are trained and helped to do their job as well as possible. They then check the informationThe assessor checks through the centre’s accreditation portfolio which includes policies, procedures, risk assessments, reports (if the service offers supervised contact) and information for families. on what happens at the centre and how it keeps you safe.

When the assessor is happy that a centre meets our standards then they are awarded their accreditation and you can find them on this website. Accreditation happens every three years with extra checks if needed.

Accreditation Summary

Date: 04/02/2023

Summary:

The contact centre is managed by the RISE Trust which operates a larger organisation offering support to families and children across Chippenham and North Wiltshire. Within this centre they offer contact services and in-house support for parents.

The contact centre is run from the children’s centre which is the home to Barnardos, offering many different services supporting vulnerable children and their families. There is a nursery on the premises and the premises is also used as a youth centre. The contact centre share resources which means that there is a plethora of toys, activities and resources which are fit for purpose and meet the needs of differing ages and stages of children and young people.

The centre is situated within a housing estate and is signposted, there is parking and it is clearly visible. Access into the building is all on one level, there are no steps – making it accessible to all.

There is an information board at the entrance which displays useful details for parents accessing the service. There is a designated bathroom for the use of contact centre families. It is well equipped and houses a baby change unit, they are clean and well maintained.

The assessor spoke to a non-resident at the centre who reported that although he didn’t want to be there, the centre was good and the facilities for the children were good. She also spoke to the children they said that they liked coming, liked the toys (playdough and drawing) and the hot chocolate.

The room used for contact is very well set up and excellently resources. The volunteers, prior to the session starting, set up the room and put activities out on table tops or on mats on the floor. The room is vibrant and fun, clean and tidy. There is an outside area which is well equipped, safe and secure. The centre is fortunate enough to have an extra space, a sensory room should they need it, this room is used only if there are enough volunteers/staff available.

This is a well well-resourced and well maintained contact centre, with excellent facilities for children and meets the accreditation standard for supported contact.
