This centre is accredited to provide supervised contact
Accreditation is a way of checking that your contact centre is safe and meets our standards.
How is a centre checked?
An assessorSomeone working on our behalf who has experience and an interest in child contact services and must assess if a service meets our standards. looks round the centre’s rooms, toys, equipment, and any outside play areas to make sure that they are safe and good for you to use. They talk with the people at the centre to make sure that they are trained and helped to do their job as well as possible. They then check the informationThe assessor checks through the centre’s accreditation portfolio which includes policies, procedures, risk assessments, reports (if the service offers supervised contact) and information for families. on what happens at the centre and how it keeps you safe. If your family time happens in the community The service might use local community venues to deliver their service or in some cases, residential properties including family members’ homes, where this is safe and appropriate., then the assessor will check that this is going to be safe for you.
When the assessor is happy that a centre meets our standards then they are awarded their accreditation and you can find them on this website. Accreditation happens every three years with extra checks if needed.
Accreditation Summary
Date: 03/04/2021
Summary:
The Starting Point Centre is a social enterprise opening in 2021 providing child contact services to the local community. They intend to develop their service slowly to ensure safety and would like to offer transport, mediation, outreach and community contact in the future. The centre has good public transport links and is in the Chapel Allerton area of Leeds, two miles from the city centre. It is a bright and friendly venue located in the grounds of a Toby Carvery with ample free parking.
The centre is very well decorated and resourced throughout with bright and colourful displays and well furnished contact rooms. A soft play area is available for children having supported contact. The centre also uses a portacabin and heated gazebo for the purposes of contact and has an outside play area.
The centre has a detailed, bright, and inviting website and additional resources containing a range of information for the children and families who may use the centre. This information helps them to anticipate everything from making a referral to the appropriate steps to take if they are unhappy or feel unsafe.
The directors have worked hard to achieve their first accreditation and have a well-resourced, welcoming service in place. Any recommended actions following the visit are now complete meaning the service meets the standards for enhanced (supervised) contact accreditation.
Centre testimonials
"The center has proven invaluable to me and maintaining my relationship with my kids. I really like that the service and the staff were non-judgmental and welcomed me as a human being - they made my kids feel welcome and the made a “challenging period” more “survivable”. The staff are amazing: competent, knowledgeable, credible and want to make this work for the kids and the parent. They care; they go the extra mile - whilst keeping a smile on their face. It helped that the staff constantly reassured me and supported me - safe in the knowledge that “this was not going to be forever”"
