Congratulations to Derby-based children’s charity and NACCC Enhanced Accredited centre, Children First Derby, who are celebrating their 50th year anniversary.
Established in 1974 by Derby resident, Milly Wigley after reading about the death of a neglected child, the children’s charity provides three bespoke services; a Family Support service, a Mentoring service, and a Supervised and Supported Contact service for looked after children.
The charity held a special 50th Anniversary Celebration Ball, at Pride Park Derby, to mark the occasion, with the successful evening raising over £5,000 to help support vulnerable children, young people, and families across the region.
Sponsored by Smith Partnership, over 180 guests attended the special celebration, with guests of honour including the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Elizabeth Fothergill CBE, the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Ian Morgan OBE, Deputy Mayor of Derby, Ajit Atwal, Member of Parliament for Derby North, Amanda Solloway, Derby City Council Cabinet Lead for Children’s Social Care, Learning and Skills, John Whitby, and Children First Derby Patron, Sir Stephen Moss CBE.
The 50th Anniversary Ball attendees were entertained throughout the night with a series of events including performances from table magicians, Ian Barradell and Andy Hall, and a dance-off battle between teams from local Dance Academy, Trinity Warriors, whose incredible routines left the crowd in awe.
Guests were also moved after watching a short film which had been specially commissioned for the event. Produced by Impress Video, the video gave an overview of Children First Derby’s services and featured beneficiaries, both parents and young people, describing how the charity has positively impacted their lives.
Children First Derby Chair, Fred Jacques, concluded the celebrations, presenting bouquets of flowers and thanks to Claire Twells, Smith Partnership partner, alongside key individuals who have contributed to the success of the charity, including founder member, Milly Wigley MBE, and Pat Dixon, who has been volunteering with the charity for over 47 years. Fred also acknowledged Sue and Colin Hand, founder members who were also present, and Derek Rowley and Monica Nelson, for their invaluable contribution.
