Julia (former Coordinator) and Shirley (former Deputy Coordinator) of the Lewes Family Contact Centre, retired after 21 years’ service at the end of 2014 and were honoured with an invitation to the Queen’s Garden Party on 19 May 2016.

Shirley (who still volunteers at the centre and is pictured on the left) told us:

“We had wonderful weather on the day and the Palace gardens were beautiful and very peaceful even though it is in the middle of London. Various members of the Royal Family spoke to us as they went by.”

“So all in all it was a good day – a pity that all the current and retired volunteers could not be with us.”

Shirley went on to say:

“We want to highlight that it was not only Julia and I who were honoured but all the volunteers and other helpers without whom we could not have run the centre.”

A child contact centre is a safe, friendly and neutral place where children of separated families can spend time with one or both parents and sometimes with other family members.  The Lewes Centre continues to operate under the care of Kathryn the co-ordinator and can be contacted via www.lewescontact.co.uk
